Slopes are usually well drained; convex slopes offer many opportunities for digging entrances and tunnels, and thus offer several directions from which a badger can leave a sett. Owing to the sparse herb- and moss coverage, as well as to the inclination and convex slopes, badgers have a good view of their surrounding from the sett.
